This is an exciting opportunity to join the county council’s Democratic Services team for two years whilst working towards a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship.

The Democratic Services Apprentice will support the wider team to support county councillors to carry out their responsibilities, effectively deliver the council’s decision-making and governance processes, and provide high quality administrative support for council meetings and council-owned companies.

We are looking to recruit a motivated and conscientious person who is reliable and can work well as part of a team.

The post-holder will work towards the delivered by the North Lancs Training Group. Through their apprenticeship study and supporting Democratic Services work, the post-holder will develop important skills to support a busy team, such as:

  • Diary and meeting management
  • Filing and keeping records
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Verbal and written communication
  • Planning and organisation
  • Knowledge of the county council and local government
  • Professionalism and responsibility in the workplace

The post-holder will carry out a range of administrative tasks that support both the Democratic Services team and the county council as a whole. This includes support to council meetings which involve county councillors, senior officers, and members of the public.

The post-holder will need to have:

  • An interest in learning about Democratic Services and local government
  • The ability to understand and follow procedures with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and digital skills
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • The ability to work accurately and with minimum supervision
