About the role
You will lead the production of accurate and timely year end (Annual Report and Accounts) and half year group (consolidated) financial statements, providing oversight and sign off in relation to entity financial statements for the UK Group’s subsidiaries and the regulated business. You’ll be the key point of contact for technical accounting guidance across the Group including any developments in new or revised standards.
You’ll foster relationships and manage multiple key stakeholders, including functional leads, Senior Royal Mail and GLS management board members, and the external auditor. Alongside this, you’ll be responsible for having key input into Board/Audit & Risk Committee Accounting papers and the Annual Report and Accounts.
You’ll lead a small team responsible for external reporting for the Group, and manage the Group external audit relationship and the audit process, acting as a key point of escalation for the external auditors. You’ll be responsible for ensuring best practice reporting including review and update of accounting policies.
You’ll be the main contact for all technical accounting advice across the Group, providing advice and Group sign off.
About you
To truly excel in this role, you’ll possess, and be able to evidence, the skills and experience listed below:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with significant PQE
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS
- High calibre written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, but still maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent people management and organisational skills, being able to prioritise your own and your team’s workload
- Strong interpersonal skills, being able to communicate effectively with all levels of management and senior executives
- A continuous improvement mindset – a desire to improve processes and make efficiencies.
- Up-to-date and strong working knowledge of international accounting standards
