The ideal candidate will have a proven track record as a Senior Developer/Technical/Solutions Architect or hands-on team leader, leading projects from requirements through to delivery. Will be able to demonstrate designing-in security, performance and User Experience. Must have the soft-skills to be able to manage multiple stakeholders within SmartStream and be able to communicate effectively with customers’ technical teams, as well as coaching our existing teams in best practices in design and implementation.

We are looking for somebody curious, able to demonstrate a broad awareness of the technology landscape who has researched and used different technologies to solve problems.

As we are actively growing our on-demand offering we need a candidate who has experience of cloud-native deployments of microservice containerised solutions using Kubernetes or other related technologies able to work with our on-demand technical teams to aid efficient deployments.

Job Responsibilities This role will largely be focused around analysis, architectural design and web framework implementation. Responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop and maintain complex web applications based on the Kafka streaming platform
  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientist, business users, project managers and other engineers to achieve elegant solutions
  • Writing and testing code to develop scalable and robust solutions, which meet the high performance and availability standards of global financial institutions
  • Making code changes and unit testing of the code
  • Investigation of problems and determining the best solution
  • Support on-going maintenance and fixes of SmartStream’s solutions and in-house toolkits
  • Discussing client’s requirements and proposed solutions with a senior developer to fully understand and translate business requirements
  • Collaborating with other developers and other departments
  • Investigation of problems and determining the best solution
  • Create technical documentation for reference and reporting
  • Build credibility with team members and support junior team members by providing feedback

Key Skills • Java (SE + EE)

  • Angular
  • Git, Maven, Jenkins Pipelines
  • Spring Framework and Spring Boot Microservices
  • Apache Kafka Event Streaming Platform
  • Experience with Hibernate and JPA,
  • REST, Swagger/OpenAPI
  • gRPC and Protocol Buffer
  • Kafka Streams, NoSQL Databases e.g. ElasticSearch, MongoDB
  • Traditional RDBMS
  • Automated Unit and System level tests using frameworks such as JUnit, Cucumber, Playwright etc.

Desirable Skills • Ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Thinking ahead and incorporating technologies that deliver better software

Qualifications BSc (Honours) Computer Science or a similar degree with significant computing bias.

Experience • A previous role as a Technical Architect

  • Experience developing in a software vendor environment is advantageous
  • Financial software experience is also advantageous
